According to an article from SammyHub, Samsung Electro-Mechanics has started mass producing wireless charging modules for cell phones and tablets. I’ve never been too impressed with wireless charging since they generally add too much additional bulk to said device. If I’m going to have a huge bulge on the back of my phone I might as well just get an extended battery and not have to visit any charger the entire day.
However, these new modules look to be much thinner, cutting down on much of the bulk usually associated with this technology. Theoretically, this can be placed on the inside of the batter cover, which is a huge improvement. There’s no mention as to if these are the type of wireless charges that need to be placed directly on a pad or can be placed in the vicinity of the charger. We’ll just have to wait and see what the final product looks like.
It’s speculated this may be available for the Galaxy S III, but that’s only rumor at this point. It’s likely we’ll see something come out for the S IV, or possibly one of the Note models. Hopefully it’s something they can manufacture for older devices as well. I’d love to have one of these for my Galaxy Nexus!
