There are a veritable plethora of free cloud storage services out there for people to choose from. Most people are familiar with Dropbox, Apple’s iCloud, or Microsoft’s Skydrive, but there are plenty of other less known ones out there. And some of them give much better deals or provide way more space. Box.com, for example, just updated their Android app and are now providing 50
GB of free cloud space (for life) when you sign up. This is a significant jump up from services such as Dropbox, which only provides 2GB to start with. The UI is very simple and I’ve had no problems moving around, uploading, and downloading files. Everythin
g seemed to flow pretty quickly as well and worked perfectly fine on ICS. Overall, it’s a very slick little app with a boatload of cloud space to go with it.
There are, however, a few drawbacks to using Box.com over some of the other services, such as Dropbox. Uploads are limited to only 100MB and you have to upgrade to a paid account to perform desktop syncing. Something that is currently free for Dropbox, and something that I absolutely l
ove. Granted, you can simply log in to Box.com and move your files to/from your desktop through their site, but it just seems so much simpler with desktop sync ready and waiting. When it comes right down to it, it’s really a matter of what works best for you. If you’re looking for a large amount of space and don’t plan on moving around many larger files, Box.com might be your best bet. It’s certainly worth taking a look at. This deal is only for the next month, so hurry up and grab it while you have the chance!
